Nancy Gassner-Clayton

Nancy Gassner-Clayton is an actress, singer, and multi-talented performing artist.  Her versatility has provided her with many wonderful opportunities throughout her varied career. Movie fans can hear her vocals on the upcoming TOMORROWLAND and JURASSIC WORLD, the latest DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, the main theme for the newest STAR TREK film, The 3 STOOGES, JOHN CARTER, and REAL STEAL.  She has a leading role in the recent feature film, SHARP, just released on DVD and Netflix as the “Jewish Mother”  MRS. ZIMMERMAN.  And she had the privilege of originating the role of the evil stepsister to PSYCHE, in a reading of the new musical PSYCHE , directed by Michael Mathews, written by Cindy Shapiro, presented at the Celebration Theater last spring.

Whether singing opera in MADAME BUTTERFLY with Placido Domingo, playing the role of a prisoner in a daytime soap opera, being the lead on stage as a British Blond bimbo in a straight play, singing on soundtracks for Video Games, Feature Films, or a Josh Groban CD, she always finds it a thrill and a privilege to be working in the entertainment business.

Nancy’s strength is her versatility. She gets those calls when someone is looking for a versatile singer who can go from singing those crazy high coloratura notes to squeaking or belting out funny character voices.  As a recording artist, some of her favorite career moments have been working for Christina Aguilera, singing on the Grammy Awards, her BACK TO BASICS CD, and even at her very private wedding!  Other session highlights include solo work on BATMAN FOREVER, Barbra Streisand’s Christmas CD, a singing role on CBS / COLD CASE, and soundtracks including TINKERBELL, SPEEDRACER, EVAN ALMIGHTY, CHICKEN LITTLE, and many others.

On camera credits include a role in Reuben Fleischer’s blockbuster film GANGSTER SQUAD starring Nick Nolte, Sean Penn, Emma Stone, and Ryan Gosling; Ron Howard’s ANGELS AND DEMONS, and ENEMY of the STATE in a scene with Will Smith. Television highlights : 2 BROKE GIRLS,  SONNY WITH A CHANCE, THE TRACY ULLMAN SHOW, GENERAL HOSPITAL, CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL, DANGEROUS WOMEN, recurring roles on daytime soap operas, and a r great role on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES as Doug Savant’s secretary, Phyllis.

Work in stage productions runs the gamut from musicals and plays, to opera... from coast to coast. Highlights include the star-studded SWEENEY TODD at the Ahmanson with Christine Baranski, Kelsey Grammar, and Neil Patrick Harris,  DANNY ELFMAN’s MUSIC / TIM BURTON’S FILMS at the NOKIA Theater this year, OKLAHOMA! with Jean Stapleton, The MIKADO with Dudley Moore, WIZARD OF OZ with Cathy Rigby, INTO THE WOODS with Tony Geary, tours to Japan with the Roger Wagner Chorale, playing the lead role in LA Opera’s Outreach production of MUSCRAT LULLABY, appearing as Mary Magdalene at the Crystal Cathedral, leading roles in many productions with the NY Gilbert and Sullivan Players and star-studded productions of Sweethearts, Eileen,  among others at the Town Hall in NYC, and 5 seasons with LA Opera. Other favorites: leading roles in Wendy Wasserstein’s comedic play ISN’T IT ROMANTIC, sweet lyrical Marsinah in KISMET, loud-mouthed Lucy in …CHARLIE BROWN, and the bawdy role of Louise in the new production of BROADS at the EL Portal in L.A.

In addition to commercial and print work... on a totally different plane, Nancy spent 8 years working for the LA Unified school system teaching music to K-6th grade students, and sharing her love for the arts.
